It slots in at number 10 largely because of its price – $152,000 USD to start, a long way from its farm vehicle origins. Certainly more of a statement piece than a necessity, but Land Rover knows exactly who this is for.

9. Jaguar F-Pace SVR

Even though the Jaguar brand has, regrettably, lost its way, the F-Pace SVR remains one of the best luxury SUVs on the market for a very reasonable price. It looks great, still carries that legacy Jaguar branding, and has all the luxury hallmarks of a Range Rover in a smaller, sportier package. The 2025 model is also the last of its kind – so if you want one, now is the time.

8. BMW X5 M Competition

This is definitely one of BMW’s best offerings at the moment. The X5 M Comp strikes the right balance between size, power, price, and premium features. BMW’s design language has taken a funny direction in recent years, but they managed to keep their composure on this one. The only knock, perhaps, is the oversized screen on the dash – the X5 wasn’t safe from this silly trend.

You won’t exactly stand out with one of these anymore, but their popularity is well-deserved. Phenomenally capable, iconic, and plenty customizable, the G-Wagen doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon, and we’re perfectly okay with that.

6. Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT

To put it quite simply, the Cayenne Turbo GT is a thrill. Equipped with a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, it’s sharp, fast, and engaging to drive. Paired with Porsche’s 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and an array of specially tuned chassis systems, acceleration is hungry and relentless. This is the Cayenne turned all the way up – and it continues to impress.

At number five, this is the quiet overachiever. The RSQ8 shares its platform and twin-turbo V8 with the Lamborghini Urus (just without the markup). The power is immediate, the steering is sharp, and the suspension setup is difficult to fault. 3. Ferrari Purosangue

Ferrari’s answer to the SUV question was laughably on-brand. They call this thing an FUV: Ferrari Utility Vehicle. When the Ferrari Purosangue was unveiled with its naturally aspirated V12, rear-mounted gearbox, and 49:51 weight distribution (a first for SUVs), however, it became understandable why it felt reductive to call it an SUV – it’s much more capable than the entire field. It’s expensive, of course, and not as practical as the average car in the SUV category, but you won’t find many 4-seater V12s out there.

2. Rolls-Royce Cullinan

In direct contrast to the Ferrari, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is quiet, stately, and unbothered by the road beneath it. This is Rolls-Royce doing what it does best – making the drive feel completely effortless (not that most owners spend much time behind the wheel). While performance-led SUVs crave drama, the Cullinan prioritises composure. It doesn’t shout for attention, but its presence and imposing Spirit of Ecstasy are always noted.

Finally, at number one is the Aston Martin DBX S. This is the 717-horsepower evolution of the DBX707, meaning it’s been quietly refined rather than reinvented. Simply put, it’s gorgeous, and tops the list of the most powerful SUVs in the world. With turbochargers taken directly from the Valhalla, 23” magnesium wheels, and the best power-to-weight ratio of any SUV on the planet, it feels remarkably resolved. 10. Capella Taipei, Taiwan

Designed by André Fu Studio and located just a stone’s throw away from Taipei 101, Taipei Arena, and Songshan Airport, Capella Taipei may be one of the city’s most conveniently situated hotels. Since opening in April 2025, Capella Taipei has offered a level of refinement that feels relaxed rather than rigid. Rather than chasing scale or spectacle, this hotel taps into the idea of a modern mansion – elegant, intimate, and composed.

9. Orient Express La Minerva, Rome

As the first hotel ever launched by Orient Express, La Minerva had plenty to live up to – and it does so with confidence. Housed inside a 17^th-century palazzo on Piazza della Minerva (mere steps from the Pantheon), La Minerva balances rich textures with soft theatricality. Intricate details such as hand-painted Roman skies are handled with restraint, adding quintessential Italian flair without resorting to gimmicks. It’s a strong opening statement from the luxury brand.

8. Patina Osaka, Osaka

Inspired by kisetsukan – the Japanese appreciation of seasonal rhythm – Patina Osaka encourages guests to slow down and tune in to their surroundings. Days here might start with a morning soundscape overlooking the city’s many green spaces, continue with a walk through Osaka Castle Park, and end with a tasting of pickles and preserved foods. Nothing is rushed, entirely by design – very good design, that is.

7. Tierra Atacama, Chile

The setting at Tierra Atacama does most of the talking. From salt flats and dunes to geysers, lagoons, and impressive volcano views (Licancabur is hard to miss), the landscape is as raw as it gets. Days unfold with desert hikes and slow afternoons, while nights bring clear star-filled skies. It’s in the middle of nowhere, yes, but that remoteness is exactly what makes it so special.

6. Aman Rosa Alpina, San Cassiano

Fresh from a major renovation, Aman Rosa Alpina is all about hitting the slopes in style. Set in the Dolomites, guests have access to Dolomiti Superski, guided snowshoe routes, and ice climbing adventures in the nearby Serrai di Sottoguda. It’s refined, outdoors-led, and very much about making the most of the surroundings.

5. Desert Rock Resort, Saudi Arabia

At number five, Desert Rock Resort in Saudi Arabia takes ambition very seriously. Nestled within the rock formations of The Red Sea, the engineering alone is seriously impressive. Rather than sitting on top of the landscape, each room is carved into it, so nothing feels imposed or out of place. If you want to feel like you’ve stepped straight into a Dune movie, this is the spot.

4. Collegio Alla Querce, Florence

Auberge Collegio Alla Querce is Florence at its best. Perched above Italy’s cultural heart, it boasts views of the Duomo from one side and the Tuscan hills on the other. The building itself has lived a few lives (Renaissance villa, boarding school, and now hotel), but none of that age can be used as fault here – it’s perfectly renovated.

3. Aman Nai Lert, Bangkok

Located within the leafy calm of Nai Lert Park, Aman Bangkok feels deliberately removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. As Aman’s first true city flagship in Southeast Asia, it sets a high bar. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy and featuring just 52 suites, it doesn’t try to compete with the outside chaos, and all the better for it.

2. The Chancery Rosewood, London

A former US Embassy turned luxury hotel isn’t something you see every day, which already puts The Chancery Rosewood in rare territory. At this stage, it feels like most of London has heard about this opening – and for good reason. With generously sized suites, eight restaurants and bars, and an Asaya Spa, it’s one of the city’s most prominent hotel launches in years, breathing fresh energy into Mayfair.

1. One&Only Moonlight Basin, Big Sky

One&Only’s first American and first alpine property is set across 240 acres of the vast Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. As such, it’s no surprise that nature is firmly in charge here. Surrounded by dense pine groves and views of Lone Peak, Fan Mountain, and the Spanish Peaks, privacy comes as standard. Add easy ski access, a wide mix of room types, and even grizzly bears as your not-so-distant neighbours, and it’s clear why this level of luxury simply didn’t exist in the Rockies before.

10. Upper House, Hong Kong

Kicking off the list is Upper House Hong Kong, the first hotel project from designer André Fu, and we’d argue it’s still one of his best. This hotel is famously filled with art, from its architecture to subtle design details in every corner.

Even arriving feels like a moment: you pass through Thomas Heatherwick’s sculptural “Stone Curtains” façade – dramatic, of course, but somehow not over the top. Add in some impressive Victoria Harbour views, and it’s easy to see why this hotel made the cut.

9. Four Seasons Firenze, Florence

Set within two Renaissance palaces and bordering one of Florence’s largest private gardens, Four Seasons Firenze seems to just ooze romance. From the frescoed ceilings and quiet courtyards, to its small Ionic temple and Duomo views, no stone has been left unturned.

Fancy some fresh air? You can head out for a truffle hunt, peek inside a Florentine cashmere factory, or check out world-famous porcelain workshops. Between the gardens, the workshops, and the views, you’ll never really run out of things to do.

8. Chablé Yucatán, Chocholá

We all know that wellness retreats are undeniably popular right now, but Chablé Yucatán takes the idea of self-care to the max. It’s located in the Yucatán jungle, which was once the heart of the Maya civilisation.

As such, the hotel pays homage to its roots through carefully curated Mayan treatment programmes, a sacred cenote, and ceremonial rituals guided by a Mayan elder. And with palm-lined pathways and crystal-clear water surrounding you at every turn, it’s the kind of place where you think you’ll “switch off a little”, and end up wondering how you ever operated at a normal speed.

7. Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok

Some hotels have a reputation, and then there’s the Mandarin Oriental, which has been drawing in everyone from Stanley Tucci to Michelle Yeoh for decades. Originally established with just 12 rooms, this hotel has gradually expanded over the years and now boasts an impressive 400 lodgings.

Despite this expansion, the hotel hasn’t lost an ounce of its charm, resulting in an experience that still feels personal and refined. And if you’re the kind of traveller who judges a hotel by its breakfast (same), we’ve heard the buffet here is particularly impressive.

6. Atlantis The Royal, Dubai

With 796 rooms, 16 restaurants, and around 90 swimming pools, Atlantis The Royal may sound pretty excessive, but that’s exactly why it works. Since opening in 2013, this hotel has been impossible to ignore, partly because it can be spotted from almost anywhere in Dubai, and partly because nothing about it feels ordinary.

The scale is unbelievable, yes, but the delivery remains polished, tapping into that signature Dubai excess without the chaos. It’s been named The Best Hotel in the Middle East this year, and, truthfully, we can’t say we’re shocked.

5. Raffles, Singapore

Opened in 1899, Raffles proves that “classic” doesn’t have to mean “dated”. Here, the lobby bar is the obvious first stop, and one Singapore Sling is enough to remind you why this place holds such a reputation.

The service is what stays with you, though, especially the butlers, who are the first to spot the small things. Leave a book open, and you’ll return to a new leather bookmark, placed neatly on your page. It’s thoughtful, carefully nostalgic, and a reminder of how good hotels can be when every detail is accounted for.

4. Passalacqua, Lake Como

Passalacqua on Lake Como feels less like a hotel and more like someone’s beautiful private home (just one that happens to be seriously well-staffed). With only 24 rooms, everything here is undeniably intimate.

The gym sits quietly in a tucked-away olive grove, while the spa can only be reached via a 300-year-old tunnel. It all feels very secretive and secure, which is exactly what you’d expect from Europe’s best hotel.

3. Capella, Bangkok

Ever wanted a personal guide while on holiday? Capella Bangkok turns that into a standard perk. This hotel is the calm counterpoint to the city’s constant noise, and with every room facing the river, it’s remarkably easy to forget you’re in one of Asia’s busiest capitals.

As an extra touch, the hotel pairs each guest with a guide who can arrange the kind of access we secretly hope for on every trip – like a private monk blessing in an otherwise closed temple. For anyone who likes their city breaks with a mix of culture and calm, this one is a no-brainer.

2. Four Seasons, Bangkok

That brings us to the third and final Bangkok inclusion on this list. Just down the river from Capella, the Four Seasons Bangkok adopts an entirely different style, one where it feels more resort than city hotel.

Cascading water features, courtesy of Jean-Michel Gathy, and riverfront views block out the hustle and bustle of the city and make the whole place feel even more self-contained. And if you’re after a dose of nightlife, BKK Social Club – widely considered the country’s best bar – is right on site, so the only journey you’ll need to make is from your room to the barstool.

Finally, Rosewood Hong Kong takes the top spot for good reason. In a city where space is usually the first luxury to go, even the smallest room here starts at 53 square metres, which, for the less numerically-inclined, is unusually generous for the market. However, what really wins people over is the curation.

Damien Hirst pieces on the walls, vintage cognac in the bar, and a sense of scale that somehow never sways too far into “corporate grand”. We love how every detail feels considered rather than showy, so the luxury never feels forced.

3. The Harmonie Club

Architecture & Facilities: Its magnificent 1905 Beaux-Arts clubhouse, designed by Stanford White, is an icon. It is a full-service social and athletic club, known for its strong community, a renowned swimming pool, squash courts, a large gym, and multiple elegant dining venues.

Architecture & Facilities: Its 1891 Stanford White-designed clubhouse is an Italian Renaissance-style gem. It is not an athletic club; the focus is squarely on its art collection, library, and lecture hall. The grand, double-height “Art Gallery” is its centrepiece, hosting rotating exhibitions.

Architecture & Facilities: Its imposing 1933 landmark clubhouse on Park Avenue, designed by Delano & Aldrich, is the definition of discretion. Inside, it is a bastion of traditional service, featuring grand dining halls, a library, squash courts, a humidor, and a famous backgammon room.

Whether it’s the waves of an Omega Seamaster or the faded hue of something vintage, a unique face is often what hooks me into a watch. The controversial honeycomb dial of the new Land-Dweller is no exception, delivered in near-perfect vintage-style sizing (37mm is the sweet spot, IMO) with a familiar jubilee bracelet to match. It’s the perfect remedy to the ever-present – and often misguided – Rolex hype, giving you just enough to cut through the noise at a reasonable $14,450 (pending “supply”).

I remember when, for the less taste-inclined, Daniel Wellington was all the rage, riding the wave of minimalist dials that pair decently with everything. What those watches were attempting to reference were some of the earlier pieces from brands like, say, Cartier, but also Louis Vuitton. This highly anticipated release from the French house does the same, dipping back into their archives to revive the original 1988 design – complete with a distinct pop of colour and respectable in-house movement that bucks the trend of the usual fashion house watches. Swiss-made at LV’s La Fabrique du Temps, the very-limited piece comes in at a hefty $53,000.

8. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self-Winding Perpetual Calendar 41 in Rose Gold

What do we reckon on rose gold? I’ve always been a silver man, myself (admittedly, my pale British genes forced my hand here), but I find a little pinkness can be the perfect blend between two worlds – providing, when done right, the chance to mix metals in a way that’s not entirely sacrilegious. Trust AP to find the balance, this year delivering a result crafted in the perfect, almost ‘dusty’ rose hue that might even entice the least secure macho men. Designed with an ‘ergonomic’ fit that’ll stand the test of time, it’s an excellent edition of the legendary (a title not used lightly, in this case) sports watch. Price upon request.

7. A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds

We’re getting a little niche now, and a Jumping Seconds complication is perhaps the best representation of that. On first pass, the dial is hard to read – but that’s part of the charm, and with a price on request, you’re not buying this for utility. Crafted from pink gold and limited to 100 pieces, the interwoven subdials, reminiscent of a Venn diagram, give you context on the hour, minute, and second. Beyond the dial, this is really just a good-looking bit of kit, and between the salmon dial, platinum bezel, and brown leather strap, it shares a striking resemblance to the next piece on our list.

6. Patek Philippe Calatrava Platinum

Despite this, in terms of complications, being about as simple as it gets, Patek’s latest and greatest Calatrava was a big deal for the watch nerds upon release at Geneva’s Watches and Wonders in April. As alluded to above, salmon dials have been a hit this year, and I’m here for it, especially against the textured browns of the leather strap, *chef’s kiss*. And, as annoying as it can be if you’re burdened with too many watches to keep on time, the manual movement on this gives you that extra bonding time, every crank reminding you that you are, indeed, the man. Price upon request.

5. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin

With perhaps the most striking dial of the year, and one of the longest names, this white gold beauty will run perfectly until the end of the century, swapping effortlessly between the metal and (included) rubber bracelet. I just can’t get enough of the proportioning here, and with the pops of blue to contrast, it’s my favourite red dial of the year, and honestly, the only one I’ve ever been properly entranced by. Slim, precise, and quietly confident – unmistakably Vacheron, as is the price: $145,000. If not for the price, this would sit higher, no doubt.

4. Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss

Limited to only 70 pieces (as a nod to the anniversary year), this is Chopard tipping their hat to one of the greatest drives in history: Sir Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson’s 1955 Mille Miglia record victory, behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. An ever-tasteful steel chronograph, the opaline dial, Arabic numerals, blue details, and rugged suede strap on this create the perfect symphony of vintage motoring. It just looks pretty, to me, and sometimes that’s all you need to love a watch. For $12,000, the often-overlooked brand gives us a lot here.

3. IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41

This is the first time IWC has combined its iconic, timeless Genta design with a perpetual calendar. The result? A steel watch that is technically impressive, aesthetically balanced, and perfectly wearable. With a well-balanced, textured dial, it offers day, date, month, leap year, and moonphase all in one neat layout. At $38,900, it’s one properly engineered daily, as we’ve come to expect from Switzerland’s most German watchmaker. An underrated option in a world of competing steel sports watches.

2. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Geographic

I am but a boy at heart, and there’s nothing better than a good map – well, other than a JLC Reverso – but thanks to the brilliant minds in Le Sentier, the two are no longer mutually exclusive. For $25,000, this work of art, on one side, offers a blue lacquered dial with a grande date, but flip it over and you get a world time complication, complete with engraved city names and a hand-lacquered map. Also available in a rose gold variant, JLC knocked it out of the park this year. I’ve always had an affinity for the Reverso, and if you were to ask me the perfect flipside dial, a map would have come straight to mind. All I need now is for a few of you (give or take) lovely readers to become paying members…

1. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph (RD#5)

Just when it felt like the Royal Oak had maybe run its course – one too many dropshippers having acquired one – AP slapped me back to my senses with this 150-piece special project. Titanium, a flying tourbillon, a flyback chronograph, and a brand-new movement – all in a package just 8.1 millimetres thick. It’s the pinnacle (and finale) of their Research and Development line, and a celebratory piece to mark AP’s 150th anniversary. For $350,000, it’s everything a Royal Oak should be, and aesthetically, every bit as drool-worthy as the spec sheet. I mean, just look at it. Wow.
